UIAA Ice Climbing Commission releases provisional calendar of events for 2013

The UIAA Ice Climbing Commission recently met in the in the Bavšica Valley in Slovenia at the main training facility of the the Alpine Association of Slovenia (Planinska zveza Slovenije) to train voluntary mountain guides, mountaineering group mentors and youth leaders.
Provisional Ice Climbing Calendar
The commission released a list of places and dates for ice climbing events in 2013 including the 2013 UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup tour.
The dates and locations which include the addition of a new stop on the World Cup tour in Rabenstein, Italy are as follows:

12-13th of January – IWC (lead, speed) & World Championship (lead), Cheongsong (Korea)

12-13th of January – World Youth Championship (lead, speed), Saas Grund, (Switzerland)
two age categories:
1) Up to 17 years ( born in 1996, or younger)
2) From 18 till 21 years ( born in 1995 - 1992)

18-19th of January – IWC (lead, speed), Saas-Fee (Switzerland)

26-27th of January – IWC (lead, speed), Rabenstein (Italy)

07-09th of February – IWC (lead, speed), Busteni (Romania)

08-10th of March – IWC (lead, speed) & World Championship (speed), Kirov (Russia)
Update on 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia
UIAA Ice Climbing president Pavel Shabalin returned from a reconnaissance trip Sochi, Russia, home to the 2014 Winter Olympics. In 2011, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee and UIAA, along with the Russian Mountaineering Federation (RMF) initiated the inclusion of Ice Climbing in the games as a cultural event.
Shabalin reports that he reviewed different sites with the help of the Sochi-2014 Organizing Committee and a venue for the ice climbing wall was chosen at the Gorky Gorod ski centre. The wall will be located between two lifts about 200 meters from central ski station.
The resort will be home to the main Olympic Media Center there, and Olympic Media Village, where about 2,000 journalists will be hosted, said Shabalin.
