The UIAA Anti-Doping Commission assists member associations to implement the Code and the Anti-Doping Policy and Procedure. It adopts and implements the World Anti-Doping (WADA) Programme in its entirety and is responsible for ensuring that all its member associations and athletes respect and comply with the Code, all relevant International Standards and all the principles inherent to the Code. On 18 February 2009, the UIAA General Assembly adopted the last of the amendments to the UIAA Anti Doping Policy & Procedure for UIAA Ice Climbing competitions. The policy was now harmonized with the 2009 World Anti-Doping Code.
Since it was founded in 1969, the Mountain Protection Commission has worked
to protect the mountains – one of the last natural, unspoilt and free spaces on
earth. The goal is to ensure that the mountains will still be there to enjoy
for future generations of mountaineers and mountain people. The commission educates, provides practical advice and promotes eco
friendly behaviour among everyone who visits the mountains. It’s most recent
initiative is the UIAA Mountain Protection Award, and together with other
international conservation organisations and networks the commission continues
to promote the sustainable development of mountain areas.
The Mountaineering Commission deals with training standards, ethics and regulations of mountaineering. It operates through its three working groups, the Training Standards Panel and The Legal Experts Working Group (LEWG) and the Traditional Values Working Group (TVWG). The UIAA Training Standards encourage good practice in the training of voluntary mountaineering leaders and instructors for member federations. The commission is also involved in the process of writing documents on climbing and mountaineering ethics as well as monitoring and putting out discussion papers on issues such as the use of fixed equipment for climbing, particularly in vulnerable and environmentally sensitive areas.
