Skyrunning
Begins on May 7, 2011
Where: Mount Elbrus

The World Series of the international Skyrunning Federation kicks off in Russia with a Vertical Kilometer® on Mount Elbrus in May before heading south to the Maratòn Alpina Zegama-Aizkorri in Spain’s Basque Country. The Skyrunning Federation became an official Observer of the UIAA in October 2010.

American Alpine Club - International Climbers' Meet
Sept 26 - Oct 1 , 2011
Where: Yosemite Valley

Participants must have some climbing experience but all abilities are welcome to apply. The goal is to host a diverse group of climbing abilities from a multitude of countries. New to this year’s event is participation of American Alpine Club members.

Cuentamontes - Literature and Photography Contest
Deadline for submissions: September 10, 2011

An organisation in Spain dedicated to promoting mountain culture has expanded its annual literature and photography contest from Spanish-only entries to English. Cuentamontes is affiliated with FEDME, the national mountaineering and climbing federation in Spain. The winning entries will be published in the 2011 Cuentamontes book, which is a collection of stories on mountain themes. First prize in the literature category is €500, and €150 in the photography category.
