Slovenia invites ski mountaineers to youth camp

07 Dec 2008

The Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS) is inviting young mountaineers to a ski touring camp in Slovenia from March 1 – March 7, 2009. The event will be next year's first Global Youth Summit event.

The camp will be based at a mountain hut 1,500 metres above sea level in a place called "Beautiful Komna". This area is described by the organisers, the PZS Youth Commission, as a perfect starting point for ski touring. Most of the surrounding peaks are over 2,000m and offer various degrees of difficulty for both ascents and descents.

The camp is aimed at young people between 17 and 29 years of age. Previous experience of very difficult summer tours and easy winter tours as well as basic ski touring experience is recommended. The participants will be divided into two groups based on the level of difficulty.

The camp is also an opportunity to meet new people from other countries, and there is plenty of time to socialise, as well as attend lectures and discussions in the evenings.

The price is €266 per person, which includes hut accommodation and full board.  The camp can accommodate up to 20 - 25 participants with a maximum of four per association. Participants younger than 18 years must be joined by an adult leader.

The registration deadline is January 20. Please visit the Global Youth Summit calendar for information about 2009 events and to download the information pack and registration form.
