Young climbers invited to summer camp in the Romanian Carpathians

13 Feb 2009

Young climbers aged 17 to 25 are invited to a week of climbing and hiking in the Bicaz Gorges national park in Romania. The camp will welcome mountaineers of all abilities from August 15-23.

The area has over 200 climbing routes to choose from, and the participants will also go hiking and take part in other mountain activities. The programme will be adjusted both to accommodate the beginners and the toughest and most experienced climbers.

This event is part of the Global Youth Summit, a series of international summer climbing camps and other mountaineering events for young people. You will find information about the other events on the GYS calendar.

The location of the Romanian camp is described as a climbing paradise near the impressive Red Lake, in the famous deep gorges sculptured in Mesozoic limestone rocks. There are over 200 climbing routes, bolted or classic, UIAA grade 3 to 10, 1 to 15 pitches, 15m to 300m high, with easy access. The climbing (free, artificial or mixed), hiking and trekking here is unique, promise the organisers.

Accommodation and meals will be at the Ecolog Hut (‘Cabana Ecolog’), altitude 700m, which is run by the Romanian Mountain Club. Activities will be led by experienced qualified instructors.

The programme will include climbing and hiking, a one-day cultural round trip (optional), evening presentations and social activities. It will also be possible to go mountain biking, caving, horseriding, fishing and swimming.

The cost is €230 per participant for the entire programme, accommodation, full board and local transport. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult/team leader over 18.

For more information and contact details please read the invitation. If you would like to take part, please fill out and send in the registration form before July 15, 2009.
