Italian mountain film festival begins

This week sees the opening of the 57th Trento Film Festival. The festival features films with the themes mountain, exploration and adventure.

The event takes place in the Italian city of Trento to May 3. The films shown will include documentaries, news reports and features. The film contest will open on April 25, with 43 films taking part.

One of the screenings of interest to mountaineers is "Karl" by Valeria Allievi, a documentary about the South Tyrolean mountaineer Karl Unterkircher who tragically died in July 2008 during an attempt to climb the Rakhiot face of the Nanga Parbat.
