American Alpine Club sponsors International Climbers’ Meet

Indian Creek, Utah is home to the world's best crack climbing. The Creek's endless splitters of all sizes and lengths offer up challenges of endurance and strength and have been a worldwide climbing destination for over three decades, making it the perfect location for hosting the American Alpine Club's 2008 International Climbing Meet. During the meet's weeklong run, climbers from climbing clubs and mountaineering federations throughout the world will come together to share in the unique experience of Indian Creek crack climbing. American Alpine Club host climbers will give the visiting climbers the grand tour of the Creek, from the tasty tips cracks to the gnarly offwidths—there will be challenges for everyone, plus tons of food and more than one wild party. This is one event you won't want to miss!

Who’s invited: Two (one male and one female) young climbers from each country. Minimum qualifications: Must be able to lead  a UIAA VII- , 5.10, E2, or French 6b. Each country will be paired up with an American host climber.
 

Event Schedule:

 
Friday, October 3 - Climbers arrive at Denver International Airport. Opening Ceremonies at the Mountaineering Center in Golden begin at 5pm.
 
Saturday, October 4 - Travel to Indian Creek.
 
Sunday, October 5 through Thursday, October 9 - Five days of crack climbing,
campfires, guest speakers and slideshows at Indian Creek.
 
Friday, October 10 - Travel back to Golden for showers and kick-off party for the AAC’s annual Craggin’ Classic. BBQ, beer, and mingling with celebrity American climbers.
 
Saturday, October 11 - Climbing at classic areas such as Eldorado Canyon and Boulder Canyon, plus gear demos, fun and games. Blow-out party that night.
 
Sunday, October 12 - Burrito Breakfast, more climbing.
 
Monday, October 13 - Coor’s Brewery tour
 
Tuesday, October 14 -Travel home.
 
Cost: Registration fee: $100. Visiting climbers are responsible for air travel expenses to and from Denver International Airport and their meals while not at Indian Creek. Other expenses are covered by AAC.
 
Gear list for visiting climbers: Tent, sleeping bag and pad, mess kit (i.e., bowl, plate, fork, knife, spoon, water bottles, and coffee mug). Harness, climbing shoes, chalk bag, belay device, and helmet.
