Filmmaker David Breashears to speak at Rowell Award

18 May 2010

The American Alpine Club is supporting a talk by mountaineer and filmmaker David Breashears as part of the Galen and Barbara Rowell Lecture Series on June 9 in San Francisco.

"We're excited to have renowned mountaineer and filmmaker David Breashears as our featured speaker and Craig Childs as the Rowell Award recipient," Brian Thysell of the Rowell Award told the UIAA.

Breashears will pay tribute to his friends Galen and Barbara Rowell and discuss his work in filmmaking, mountaineering and climate change.

The Rowell Award for the Art of Adventure will be presented to wilderness explorer and writer, Craig Childs.

The Rowell Award celebrates the accomplishments of famed adventurers and photographers Galen and Barbara Rowell, who died in a plane crash in 2002. The Rowell Award honors that adventurer whose artistic passion illuminates the wild places of the world, and whose accomplishments significantly benefit both the environment and the people who inhabit these lands and regions.
