Mountain and sports medicine courses in the United Kingdom and Germany

Three courses approved by the UIAA Medical Commission which have been designed for doctors and others interested in altitude, wilderness, travel and sports medicine will take place in the United Kingdom in November and December and in Germany in 2013.
 

Mount Olympus, Greece

Medical Expeditions Oxford Altitude Symposium (United Kingdom):  The one day course takes place on 30th November 2012 and is organized by Dr. Annabel Nickol of Oxford University in association with Medical Expeditions. It is an informal one-day symposium in the Department of Physiology at the University of Oxford.

The course provides the opportunity for presentations and discussion of the latest research in high altitude medicine/physiology and hypoxia, and includes an evening talk by a guest. The meeting is aimed at both clinicians and basic scientists interested in these rapidly developing areas. Registration and other details can be found here.

Mountain Medicine and High Altitude Physiology (United Kingdom): This course takes place 1-3 December, 2012 and is organized by Dr. Peter Barry of the University of Leicester along with Medical Expeditions.

The course is being held at the National Mountain Centre, North Wales (Plas Y Brenin - PYB) and is based on previous courses in mountain and high altitude medicine held since 1993. It is aimed at doctors and others interested in altitude, wilderness and travel medicine such as GP’s, travel and sports medicine doctors and physiologists.

Speakers at both courses include UIAA Medical Commission president David Hillebrandt, John West, Jim Milledge, John English, Jean-Paul Richalet, George Rodway, Brownie Schoene, Rachel Bishop, Rob Roach and Erik Swenson. Registration and other details can be found here.

Sports Medical Course (Germany): This course takes place between 6 - 9 June, 2013 in Obertrubach, Germany and is organized by Dr. Volker Schöffl , a member of the UIAA Medical Commission.

The four day event which is full of lectures, practical activities and workshops aimed at all ability levels and program focuses on mountaineering, running and mountain biking. It takes place near the famous climbing region of Frankenjura.

The event which is now in its sixth year was previously conducted in German but the 2013 event will be hosted an international event and conducted in English. Registration and program details can be found here.
