FEDME to host International Mountaineering Congress ‘CIMA2015’: Mountaineering Challenges for the XXI Century

Organizers of the International Mountaineering Congress in March in Zaragoza, Spain have released an updated and final schedule of activities and discussion for the forum that will tackle mountaineering challenges of the 21st century.

The conference is being organized by Spanish Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing (FEDME) and takes place 26-29 March 2015. The UIAA Management Committee will meet during the conference.

"It’s important to underline the quality of the roundtables which have been organized with remarkable and renowned climbers and mountaineers from around the world as guests and speakers,” said FEDME spokesperson Juan Jesús Ibáñez Martín who is also president of the UIAA Access and Expeditions Commissions.

"UIAA Management Committee members are also involved in some roundtables in this unique opportunity to discuss mountains, mountain sports, nature and the environment,” said Martín.

The range of topics being discussed cover the gamut of issues including competition in mountain sports, technical training in mountain sports, mountaineering and nature conservation, new materials used in climbing and mountaineering products, active tourism in the mountains and new trends. 

The event is being held at the Congress Palace of Zaragoza and supported by the Aragonese Mountaineering Federation (FAM) with the support of the Government of Aragon, Zaragoza City Council and the University of Zaragoza.

The Spanish Championships for Climbing and Bouldering will be organized by FEDME in the Central Square of Zaragoza on Saturday, 28 March 2015 and activities include a climbing wall for kids organized by Spanish army troops.

The overall objective of the Congress is to be a meeting place for mountaineers, researchers, professionals, businesses, administrations, mountain people and all those who are willing to reflect on, research, share experiences and discuss about the "Challenges of Mountaineering in the XXI Century.”

The acronym CIMA2015 acronym stands for the initials of the relevant words of the meeting: Congress- International-Mountaineering-Aragón.

The official languages of this event are Spanish and English.
