The UIAA Safety Label logo trademark is registered internationally and may only be used for products that have been certified by the UIAA.

Safety is a very important issue for the UIAA, as it is for all climbers and mountaineers. The UIAA Safety Commission works closely with the industry to develop standards to minimize accidents caused by equipment failure. A certified piece of mountaineering and climbing equipment carries a UIAA Safety Label, which indicates the equipment’s compliance with the UIAA standards. The UIAA first started to test ropes in 1960 and now has standards for 20 different categories of safety equipment, including helmets, harnesses and crampons. Want to be UIAA Certified? Please read the Safety Label regulations.

The testing of safety equipment is carried out in UIAA-approved test laboratories. VIDEO

Safety Standard

The main feature of UIAA Safety Standards is that they are developed BY mountaineers and climbers, making them the most acceptable standards worldwide. Download the latest standards and pictorials if you are an existing or potential Safety Label Holder or Test Laboratory.

Certified Equipment and Recalls

Search for UIAA Safety Label certified products available in the market through various brands. This feature enables transparency and also helps UIAA fight MISUSE of its Safety Label Certification. Also see the list of blacklisted products and a list of recalls.

Advice - Techniques and Equipment

A comprehensive list of articles provides advice for climbers and mountaineers on techniques and equipment. These are educational resources and the UIAA holds no liability for their accuracy. Submit your articles to the UIAA for review and possible publication.
