Office staff

Judith

Judith Safford is the UIAA's Executive Director. She was born in London and started mountaineering after moving to Germany, where she studied Business and Economics and completed a PhD in Public Finance. She has also completed training in management for non-profit organisations, intercultural communication, mediation and other communication techniques.

Martina Martina Amrein is the UIAA Administrative Assistant and comes from Switzerland.  She has a certificate in commercial administration and her job is to support the Executive Director. She keeps the office running by doing the daily administration tasks and deals with general enquiries.
Jenny Jenny Gabrielsen comes from Norway and has a Bachelors degree in journalism. She started at the UIAA as an intern in August 2007, and now works part-time as a Duty Editor and Webmaster, writing and preparing content for the website. Jenny also has organisational experience from the scout movement and has worked at the World Scout Centre in Kandersteg, Switzerland.
Valérie Herzig is our new Safety Label Administrator and is based in Valais, Switzerland. She trained as a mechanical engineer and  currently works part-time in this field. She has experience of material testing and is also a passionate all-round mountaineer, who has worked in risk management in mountaineering and similar fields for both the Swiss Alpine Club and the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research in Davos, Switzerland.
Dale Bechtel, who has a dual Swiss-Canadian citizenship, is the Web Editor. He was a broadcast journalist before becoming a dedicated web editor specialising in alpine tourism. He launched his internet career with a multimedia re-enactment of a 19th century mountaineering expedition. Dale is responsible for the editorial and communications policy of the UIAA website as well as content.
 Cristina Manof   Alex Paun and Cristina Manof are our Webmasters and are based in the Romanian capital, Bucharest. Their job is to look after the day-to-day running of the website (IT maintenance, development, content). Both are passionate climbers, who are actively involved in mountaineering activities in Romania with their national federation and the UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup. They also contribute to a Romanian mountaineering and skiing magazine. Alex specialises in web programming and Cristina’s skills are in web-based marketing and publication.
