Competition Sport

The UIAA organises Ice Climbing as a competition sport. Our athletes compete in international events such as the World Cups, World Championships and continental championships. Our aim is to get Ice Climbing included in the Winter Olympic Games and to develop new competition sports. We are committed to fair play, Anti Doping and protection of the environment.

Ice Climbing

Ice Climbers conquer frozen waterfalls and icy overhangs in wild nature. The competitions are however held on specially built climbing structures, which make them an adrenaline-driven, spectator sport.

There are two disciplines; Lead and Speed. Learn more

Anti Doping

Play true is the motto of the World Anti-Doping Agency. Honesty has always been essential to mountaineering, because it is a self-regulating sport. The UIAA aims to have Ice Climbing recognised as an Olympic sport. Anti Doping is fundamental to fair competition. Therefore we support fair play and oppose the use of performance enhancing drugs, in competitions and in the mountains. Learn more

Competition Climbing on artificial surfaces is governed by the IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing).

Ski Mountaineering competitions are governed by the ISMF (International Ski Mountaineering Federation).
