Global Youth Summit

Global Youth Summit events are held each year throughout Europe, as well as in Africa and Asia.
 

  International Trekking and Climbing Festival
November 20-28
Where: Kumjung, Nepal
Who: Young people over 16 years old

The aim of this event is to explore climbing possibilities in the Khumbu and take part in the Khumbu festival. Climbing in the shadow of Mt Everest will be a unique opportunity in the heart of the Sagermatha National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. Participants will have the chance to present climbing from their own country and to have discussions each evening on an important climbing or mountaineering topics.

Ice Climbing Camp in French Alps
December 17-22
Where: Guillestre, France
Who: Young people from 16 to 22 years old

The main goal of this youth ice climbing camp is to learn practicing many forms of ice climbing, one pitch, or routes with many pitches. Link to invitation form and registration form.

International Youth Climbing Camp
July 7-12
Where: Ariege, southern France
Who: Young people from 16 to 22 years of age

The main goal of this youth climbing camp was to practice many forms of climbing; cliffs with one pitch, or routes with many pitches on different types of rock, granite or limestone. It was also be possible to do canyoning and caving.

Climbing and trekking - Three National Parks, FYR Macedonia

August 21-27
Where: Ohrid Lake, FYR Macedonia
Who: Young people from 16 to 30 years of age 

The aim of the camp was to bring climbers together to hike, climb and swim through a natural monument, three national parks and along the coast of beautiful Ohrid Lake. There was a climb of the mystic canyon of “Zli Dol”, a trek to the top of mount “Galichica” (2540m) and a swim in the lake. Read full report here


Trekking in South Africa's "Dragon Mountains"
July 9-16
Where: uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park, South Africa
Who: Young people from 16 to 25 years of age

The ‘Dragon Mountains’ of South Africa are actually called the Drakensberg: ‘Drake’ means dragons and ‘berg’ means mountain - a mythical name recalling fire-breathing monsters high up in impenetrable crags. The main focus of this camp was to gain a better understanding of the cultural differences and to share this experience. Read the full report here.


 
Youth Rock Climbing and Mountaineering festival “Europe – Asia 2011"
July 10 - Aug 2
Where: Urals, Russia, and Borovoe and Tuyuk-Su, Kazakhstan
Who: Young people from 18 to 25 years of age
The festival was divided into three parts: Part 1 took place in Russia's Ural mountains, and moved to Kazakhstan for Parts 2 and 3. Highlights included a school for beginner rock climbers, rock climbing, training, mountaineering, ecological actions, singing and excursions. Festival details and application form

"Stone King" trek in Italian Alps
July 24-31
Where: Monviso and Waldensian Valleys, Italy
Who: Young people from 14 to 17 years of age

This treks appeal was due to its focus on nature, the environment and history. It lead to places such as the oldest tunnel of the Alps and the first hut ever built in the area. The tour also commemorated the first ascent of Monviso (3,840m) exactly 150 years ago. Trek details. The Stone King history Read the full report including participants feedbacks
