The UIAA Mountain Protection Commission is working on the development of a second mountain protection award focused specifically on conservation projects undertaken by UIAA member federations.

The proposal to help member federation conservation projects was discussed at a commission meeting earlier this month in Baku, Azerbaijan, with plans for it to be in place by 2015.

The initiative is inspired by the success of the UIAA Mountain Protection Award which is focused on sustainable and environment friendly mountain tourism projects by travel and tourist operators.

The deadline to be nominated for the UIAA Mountain Protection Award and $10,000 cash prize is 31 August 2014.
