You might not be going to Beijing this summer, but you still have the chance to be a part of the Olympics. As part of the Global Youth Summit, we are inviting young mountaineers to ascend Mount Olympus on the 24th August.

The expeditions planning to ascent Everest this spring are facing problems. At the moment, permits are not being issued by Chinese or Nepali authorities.

According to the last information by the Patrouille des Glaciers that we received (problem with the ranking of mixed teams on the Long Distance Team World Championship), the ISMF, through its Technical Director Mr. André Dugit, publishes the following statement:

The German Alpine Association (DAV) and the Austrian Alpine Association (VAVO) are organising a hut symposium in Salzburg 30th March- 2nd April 2008. The event will be in the German language, and will include a gastronomy fair.

The UIAA is to become a Friend of the Rowell Award For the Art of Adventure. The award is given to an adventurer whose artistic passion illuminates the wild places of the world.

The Board of the Himalayan Environment Trust has decided to institute an award in Sir Edmund Hillary's memory. The annual award will be given to an organisation or an individual for outstanding lifetime contribution to the cause of the Himalayan Environment.

The 6-7th May 2008, representatives from our member federation have the chance to take part in a seminar on training standards.

At the Extraordinary Plenary Assembly of the ISMC (UIAA Ski-mountaineering) on February 27th 2008 in Champéry, Switzerland, it was unanimously decided to take the first step in the process to work towards Unit membership of the UIAA for ISMC/ISMF Ski-mountaineering.

The Seoul Alpine Federation is organising the 4th Seoul International Bouldering competition, the Black Yak cup, 12th – 13th April 2008. National federations are invited to enter their athletes.
