Global Youth Summit reports 2006

International Ski Touring Camp in Slovenia
This Youth Commission UIAA camp was held in Komna in the Julian Alps from 4 - 11 February 2006. The base-location was the mountain hut “Dom na Komni” (1520 m), situated in the Komna region of the Julian Alps. Komna is an ideal starting point for ski tours. The participants included nine young people from Spain and three from Slovenia in addition to the Slovene leadership team (guides, doctor). Read more and see pictures here

View Point – Mt Kazbek
This Youth Camp was arranged from 3 – 10 July 2006. The 25 climbers, including participants from Georgia, the Ukraine and Russia learned new skills and experienced the glaciers of the Caucasus. The high point was summiting Mount Kazbek, (5033m) one of the chief mountains of the Caucasus, located on the border between Russia and Georgia. Read more and see pictures here

UIAA – International Youth Camp “hot rock, wild water”

The international Youth Camp “Hot Rocks – Wild Water“ was held in Bad Hindelang, Germany, based in the Youth Hostel of the German Alpine Club from 23rd to 29th of July 2006. There were 2 participants from Austria, 13 from Germany, 9 from Spain, 3 from South Tyrol, Italy, 3 from Russia, 1 from Switzerland and 12 from Ukraine. The participants enjoyed each others company and got experience with many intercultural aspects of working and having holidays together. Read more here

International Youth Rock Climbing Festival Europe - Asia 2006
The International Youth Rock Climbing Festival "Europe - Asia 2006" (Festival) was held in Russia from the 14 July to the 2 August. The first part was held in the Urals, the second part in Siberia. There were 45 participants including two girls from Switzerland, one girl from Germany, one boy from Kazakhstan, and others from Russia. Read more and see pictures here.

International Youth Expedition, “Mt. ELBRUS – 2006“ (5642 m)

UIAA Youth International Expedition “Elbrus – 2006” took place in the central Caucasus from 23.07.06 till 02.08.06. The expedition was organised and conducted by Dnepropetrovsk regional Mountaineering and Rock Climbing Federation from UMF. The head of the Expedition was UIAA Youth Commission member Alexander Zaidler. Fifty seven participants from Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, and the Ukraine took part.  Read more and see pictures here.

Environmental Work camp 2006
At this year’s environmental work camp in the Natural Park of Kaunergrat Austria, July 30 – August 05 2006, there were 11 participants from 16 – 23 years old. Most of them were Austrians, but there were also two Germans, one British and one Slovenian. The participants helped clear rocks, bushes and rubble from mountain pastures. Open Routes Setter Camp
The Open Routes Setter Camp was held at Ohrid Lake, 2 – 10 September 2006 by the FYR Macedonian Mountain Sport Federation. This was the first Youth Camp organised by the federation. The main goal of the camp was to open new routes and educate new routes setters. The federation wants to develop the Ohrid Lake area as a world famous climbing destination. The participants came from Russia, Greece, Slovenia, Serbia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Read more and see pictures here.
