Tourists are increasingly interested in learning more about the different ecosystems, wildlife, cultures and communities that they encounter during the course of their trip. Visitor education and interpretation efforts can help communicate ideas and messages to travelers that increase their awareness, knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the natural and cultural environments of a destination.

Projects that help highlight the special environmental, cultural, social and historical aspects of a region, identify relevant issues and appropriate behaviors related to the natural environment and local culture, and develop interpretative materials are encouraged.
