On 5 March 2021, a doping control was conducted on Polina Aubakirova (KAZ), an ice climbing athlete. Analysis of the sample concluded that the athlete had tested positive for meldonium (S 4. Hormone and metabolic modulators).
According to the decision of the UIAA Ice Climbing Disciplinary Panel, Polina Aubakirova has been found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation under the UIAA anti-doping regulation Rule 2.1 – the presence of a prohibited substance in an athlete sample. As a result, she has been sanctioned to 3 (three) years ineligibility, commencing on 5 March 2021 and ending at the conclusion of 5 March 2024.
