The 2022 UIAA General Assembly will be held in Banff, Canada on Saturday 29 October. The event will be hosted by the Alpine Club of Canada.
Livestreams
Delegates from over 40 countries are expected to attend the GA. For anyone wishing to follow the GA remotely, the following three events will be livestreamed:
GA, Plenary Session. 0830 local time, 1630 CET
Climate Change Summit. 1330 local time, 2130 CET
Mountain Protection Award Ceremony. 1700 local time, 0100 CET

Following the main GA Plenary Session (which will include Panel discussions on Commission projects), two events related to sustainability will be held:
Climate Change Summit
This workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss topics related to sustainability and climate change in an informal format, to learn and to better understand needs and expectations of UIAA member federations.
Mountain Protection Award (MPA) Ceremony
The 2022 UIAA MPA winner will be announced during a dedicated ceremony which will feature insights into this year’s Award and a contribution from the Bally Peak Outlook Foundation, Award partner.
The announcement of the winner, who will receive the MPA Trophy and 10,000 euros in prize money, follows the confirmation that the Clean Hikers project by Leave Good Trace (Korea) and Save Rinjani by FPTI (Indonesia) were awarded the runner-up and best new initiative prizes respectively.

Banff National Park was the site of the UIAA General Assembly in 2006, situated in the heart of Canada’s Rocky Mountains and is the birthplace of the Canadian national park system created in 1887. A number of cultural programmes are being held in parallel with the event, including the famous Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival and a Cultural Programme dedicated to Canada’s indigenous peoples and their role in early mountaineering in the Canadian rockies.

The GA host will be Grant Statham, the recipient of the 2022 Summit of Excellence Award. The Award celebrates long-term contributions, service, and demonstrated impact within the mountain culture community in Canada by an individual or group from across the country.
