The UIAA – International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation – is delighted to announce the appointment of André von Rotz as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Von Rotz will assume the position on a full-time basis from 1 February 2025.
André von Rotz, a German national and graduate mechanical engineer, has spent over 11 years working in Switzerland for Mammut. His most recent role was Head of Quality, where he led an international team of engineers, quality managers, textile specialists and inspectors in Asia, at the HQ in Switzerland and at the subsidiary in Germany. He was also responsible for the repair workshops in Switzerland and Europe. With past roles in product compliance and product development, von Rotz brings vast experience and expertise in the fields of climber safety and equipment. As part of his role at Mammut, a UIAA Safety Label Holder, von Rotz was an active member of the pool of climbing equipment manufacturers who have supported the research, testing and development of UIAA Safety Standards.
André von Rotz succeeds Nils Glatthard, a Swiss national who has held the position of UIAA CEO since July 2017. Glatthard will continue in his role throughout a period of transition until early 2025.
“We are excited to welcome André as our new CEO. In a field of excellent candidates, the selection committee strongly agreed that he met all the criteria required for the position. We are confident that he will be a strong asset to the Management Board and UIAA members in their work to bring the UIAA to its full potential. That said, he has a tough act to follow coming after current CEO Nils Glatthard. There’s little question that Nils leaves a significant and lasting legacy that provides a solid foundation for the UIAA in the years to come.”
Peter Muir, UIAA President
“As a very active climber and mountaineer, I cannot imagine a more fulfilling professional task than working for the UIAA and thus making my personal contribution to the community. For me, “sustainable safety in mountaineering and climbing” is the cornerstone of the UIAA and through my personal career I am delighted to be able to further develop this topic together with the Management Board and the member federations. I would especially like to thank Nils, Peter, the Executive Committee and the Management Board for the trust they have placed in me.”
