The International Skyrunning Federation (ISF), unit member of UIAA, held their postponed 2020 Skyrunning World Championships from 9-11 July, in the Spanish Pyrenees.
Three days, three disciplines, three races marked the return of racing on a grand scale and what better than to kick off with the biggest international skyrunning event? The postponed 2020 Skyrunning World Championships saw athletes from 22 countries feel the joy of competing again and battling for a medal.
World titles and 27 medals were awarded to Individuals and Official Teams as well as a Combined title based on the best results of the VERTICAL and SKY races.
Host country Spain, representing the greatest following of the sport and some of its greatest champions, came out on top again with no less than twelve medals.
Joint UIAA / ISF Members were represented by Costa Rica, Cyprus, Hungary, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Portugal, Russia, and host country, Spain.
Two new Presidents attended, Alberto Ayora from the Spanish Federation FEDME and Fabio Meraldi from the Italian Federation, FISky, together with Pavlos Georgiadis, president of the Cyprus Federation. ISF President Marino Giacometti awarded the world titles and medals.
For the first time, teams from Bolivia, Canada, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Guatemala, North Macedonia and Peru participated in a Skyrunning World Championship, highlighting the spread of skyrunning to new countries and the passion of new athletes ready to test their skills on the international stage with the best.
