Award in memory of Sir Ed

Membership

The Board of the Himalayan Environment Trust has decided to institute an award in Sir Edmund Hillary’s memory. The annual award will be given to an organisation or an individual for outstanding lifetime contribution to the cause of the Himalayan Environment.

The ‘Sir Edmund Hillary Himalayan Environment Award’  will keep alive the memory of Sir Ed and his outstanding contribution to the cause of the Himalayan Environment. The award will be presented annually on October 14, which is the Foundation Day of the Himalayan Environment Trust.

The first award will be presented at a function in New Delhi on October 14, 2008. People all over the world are invited to make nominations.

The Award Committee will consist of Dr. Karan Singh, (M.P and Advisor to HET),  Justice Kuldip Singh (India’s ‘Green Judge’), D.R. Karthikayan, Sir Chris Bonington,( Director General, ICIMOD), J.C. Kala (former Secretary Forests, Govt of India) and Captain M.S. Kohli, (Chairman, Himalayan Environment Trust).

The Board of Trustees of the Himalayan Environment Trust held a Memorial Service in the honour of their Founder and Patron, Late Sir Edmund Hillary, in New Delhi on February 29, 2008.
