Our friends at the International Mountain Summit who host one of the biggest and much anticipated mountaineering conferences in Europe have sent us news about what’s happening this year in October.
This year’s summit which is in its fifth year takes place in Brixen, Italy and includes meetings, presentations, walks, films, pictures and climbing. The range of topics being discussed includes the mountain biking boom, the Dolomites as a Natural World Heritage site, telemedicine and music.
Speakers and participants include Reinhold Messner, Hansjörg Auer, Nina Caprez, Catherine Destivelle, Benedikt Böhm as well as the wingsuit flyer Alexander Polli, the philosopher Richard David Precht, BILD-journalist Marcus Hellwig and neuroscientist Arne Dietrich.
Highlights of this year’s programme include:
- An International Mountain Summit Walk Day titled “Walking and coming together.” More than a thousand mountaineers are expected to participate.
- A discussion call “Mountain Xtreme,” which is focused on adrenaline pumping sports such as wingsuit flying, extreme skiing and free solo climbing.
The UIAA – International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation Mountain Protection Award will also be featured at this conference.
This year, for the first time, the Alpenpioniere AWARDS will be assigned honouring pioneers who through their performances and ideas best characterized the spirit of mountaineering.
The mountain festival begins on Thursday 17 October 2013 with the opening session themed “Mountain Stories.”
The festival ends 22 October with the discussion “Evolution through risk”.
