GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Spray-painted graffiti such as writing, advertisements, paintings or memorials on rocks, mountains, tree is unfortunately very common in Iran. Currently there is no obligation to remove them despite it presenting a great danger and polluting. Barzin Mehr Club has been working on this problem with a number of participants, including the general public and the media. The organization sets up different projects each week, with the objective of removing different kinds of graffiti all over the country. Our main goal is to improve the relationship between man and nature and also promote the culture of protecting nature and its beauty. We also aims to raise awareness about the adverse impacts of these structures and debris on fauna and flora, soils and rivers, and on the global ecosystem.
RELATIONSHIP WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES
Barzin Mehr campaigns for a respectful relationship between man and nature. Our main goal is to improve mountaineers experience while protecting the mountain environment. We want to encourage people to stop writing on mountains and rocks. Some of these writings are advertisements of companies. Barzin Mehr staffs contacts these companies to try and convince them that destroying the beauty of nature is not a good way of advertising and has many negative impacts. Therefore we encourage them to engage with us in a collective appreciation of nature.
COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL AUTHORITIES
Our operations serve as a good example to encourage other organizations or companies to remove graffiti. Local authorities are also engaged to provide employees as volunteers are needed. Furthermore, participants are invited to the visit of the site with a certified guide after the end of the operations, a great way to discover the territory and to raise awareness about the importance of mountains protection.
BEYOND ‘BUSINESS AS USUAL’
Since March of 2018 we have cleaned over 13 mountain areas in our province. This has had a very positive impact on other alpine clubs encouraging them to also run these kind of operations. Many groups and volunteers joined us.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
As mentioned some of the graffiti being removed are advertisements of some companies. After negotiating with these companies, our staffs suggest them to help us and also help themselves to change their customers view.
The authorities, mountaineers and also volunteers help us to reach our goals. although it is not an expensive project because it need only some wire brush and water.
HOW WE COMMUNICATE
Everybody is always welcome to support us on “Barzin-Mehr.ir ” website. we uses several tools to communicate with people; on the work sites, with publications, videos and value recognition to participants. It would be enough for our project UIAA MPA introduce our project, so it would have international effect.
